Companies ‘feel betrayed’ due to capping of COVID-19 vaccine price: Kiran Mazumdar Shaw

Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw on Sunday hit out on the authorities capping COVID-19 vaccine value at Rs 250 at personal hospitals, saying vaccine corporations “really feel betrayed” as it’s too low to maintain.

Reacting to a report that the well being ministry has fastened Rs 250 per shot at personal hospitals and well being centres, she tweeted, “We r (sic) crushing as a substitute of incentivising vaccine business.”

She additional mentioned, “Covid Vaccine Jab Capped At Rs 250 At Non-public Hospitals: Authorities – perceive vaccine cos (sic) really feel betrayed as value is simply too low to maintain.”

Mazumdar-Shaw requested, “If WHO has agreed to USD 3 per dose, why beat them down to USD 2?”

The federal government’s capping of the vaccine value at personal hospitals comes at a time when India is making ready to vaccinate individuals aged above 60 years and people over 45 with co-morbidities from March 1.

The COVID-19 vaccine will likely be given free of value at authorities hospitals, whereas individuals will want to pay for it at personal services.

It’s understood that the Rs 250 ceiling per dose contains Rs 150 per dose of vaccine plus Rs 100 service cost.
